Pennsylvania High School Student In Critical Condition After Dispute Over Marijuana

A Delaware County teen is in intensive care after being shot in the face, allegedly over an ounce of cannabis.

The incident happened near the intersection of Rose Tree Lane and Glen Gary Drive in Havertown, Pennsylvania at around 8:17 p.m. on Tuesday.

“The victim arrived at that location with two other males, we believe for a drug deal,” said Chief John Viola in a statement Wednesday morning. “At some point, there was an altercation with the people he was supposed to meet; there was two other people in that car. At some point during that altercation, he was shot in the face.”

Chief Viola said that all of the suspects took off running, but law enforcement was able to identify some of them from various pieces of surveillance video that they were able to obtain from around the neighborhood.

WPHT reports that emergency personnel transported the victim, 18-year-old Haverford High School senior Marquis Mays, to an area hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

Haverford Township Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect, a classmate whom they believe to be the shooter. Two other teens are also reported to be at the Department for questioning.
