When Space X CEO Elon Musk accepted a blunt from Joe Rogan during an appearance on his podcast this week, he probably wasn’t imagining the sensationalism that it would generate when he took it and proceeded to take a quick puff of the smoldering, tobacco-wrapped cannabis.
The incident immediately created a widespread media buzz and resulted in a more than 6% drop in Tesla stock by Friday morning. Initial reports stated that the Air Force had launched an investigation into the matter, though a spokesperson for the military branch says that there is no active probe at this time.
“It’s inaccurate that there is an investigation,” the spokesperson told The Verge. “We’ll need time to determine the facts and the appropriate process to handle the situation.”
Word of an investigation reportedly began when Fox Business correspondent Charles Gasparino tweeted, “SCOOP: After inquiries by @FoxBusiness i am told that the @airforce has begun to look into @elonmusk‘s pot-smoking during @joerogan interview. at issue: @SpaceX is a government contractor and marijuana use is prohibited for people w govt security clearance — stay tuned.”
CNBC and others published stories following the tweet, reporting that the Air Force was investigating Elon Musk when, according to their spokesperson, they are only investigating to determine whether they need to investigate.
Gasparino had initially made an inquiry about the incident with the Air Force, who then indicated that they would further look into the matter.
Great stuff :D. It changes lives. Elon thought so also I see!
