A group of burglars in black face masks broke through the rear wall of a recently-opened Detroit dispensary early Monday morning, causing thousands of dollars in damage and making off with a large quantity of cannabis products.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the dispensary is owned by former Fox 2 anchor Anqunette Jamison Sarfoh and her husband Richard; the pair opened the business after Anqunette was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2013 and began using cannabis to treat her condition.
At around 4:25 a.m., a group of four to six individuals in a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck entered the BotaniQ Detroit dispensary on the corner of Rosa Parks Blvd and Pine Street in North Corktown through a hole they created with the vehicle.
Once the burglars were inside, they vandalized the interior of the building before leaving with a variety of cannabis edible products and CBD oil initially valued at about $2,000. The suspects were unable to take any other cannabis products or valuables as those items were locked in the business’s vault.
The damage to the dispensary, which will remain closed during repairs, was estimated to be somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000.
