A cannabis testing lab in Sacramento is under scrutiny from the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) and awaiting penalties after inspectors recently discovered that hundreds of records had been faked.
State officials discovered the fraud after they showed up at Sequoia Analytical Labs for a surprise inspection last week. When the inspectors asked Marc Foster, the lab director, about where got his data, he told them that he had faked the results.
Following Foster’s admission, Sequoia immediately terminated his employment and turned over the company’s testing license to the BCC. The BCC is currently deciding whether to suspend or revoke the permit. The lab may face penalties from the city of Sacramento as well.
In the days since the inspection, Sequoia has already hired a new lab director and is hoping to resume business by January.
According to KCRA, the scope of the falsified data encompasses more than 700 lab results from a four-month period and involves 22 of California’s 66 banned pesticides. Much of the product affected by the bogus records is thought likely to have already been consumed.
There has been no recall announcement, but Sequoia is taking full responsibility for Foster’s actions and has offered cover the cost of additional testing by another lab.
I feel like that should be an automatic revoke, some people use this as medicine and rely on the labs to insure that it’s safe to use. Especially patients that are terminally ill, they can’t afford to risk having toxic pesticides in their medicine
