Denver-based Dixie Brands Inc. revealed on Thursday that they have achieved a breakthrough in the water solubility of THC through ingredient management and a proprietary emulsification process which the company says offers marked improvements in the uptake of cannabis-infused liquids.
Dixie plans to implement the new process in the manufacturing of their current beverages and tincture products as well as in a new line of flavored and unflavored drink additives to be marketed under the FUSE brand name.
“Dixie was among the first to market with a cannabis-infused beverage nearly a decade ago, and we have remained at the forefront of research and development ever since,” said Dixie CEO Chuck Smith in a statement. “That focus on innovation has enabled us to expand into 15 product categories, and like any other successful CPG company, we are always striving to improve our product offerings.”
Smith says that a faster-acting formula is the next step in the company’s ongoing quest to provide better service for patients and other consumers.
According to Dixie, beverages help to bridge the gap for people who are curious to try cannabis products as an alternative to alcohol; a trend that the company says has been driven by the millennial demographic.
Analysts at Canaccord Genuity estimate that the cannabis-infused beverage market could be worth $600 million by 2022, with THC-infused drinks representing $340 million of the total.
