Marijuana use is not currently allowed by the National Football League (NFL), but that hasn’t stopped players from speaking up in support of its use as an alternative to opioids for injuries or even using it before games.
Florida State alumni Nick Moody was a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers from 2013 to 2014 under coach Jim Harbaugh and played other positions for the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins as well. Moody is currently a free agent and chose to go public about his cannabis use after the Cleveland Browns decided not to sign him.
Moody began using cannabis during high school and has continued since, even through college and during his career in the NFL, believing that anti-marijuana policies were the problem and not his use.
But despite the NFL’s anti-cannabis rules, Moody reveals that he and other players used it before games in 2013 and 2014.
βI feel like my best games were when I was highest,β Moody told The Press Democrat. βIt kind of kept me from overthinking stuff.β
Moody said that some teammates would participate in the pre-game session, noting how well they played afterward.
Moody is currently a partner of CLC Brand Labs, an indoor cannabis production company located in Palm Springs.
