It’s been just over two months since King Maha Vajiralongkorn signed legislation allowing the medicinal use of cannabis with a doctor’s prescription in Thailand and plans to manufacture and export edibles to the legal United States market are already being announced.
Former Miss Thailand World (1990), Chanakarn Chaisri and alternative treatment specialist, Dr. Gahom Nalanchang spoke at a press conference this week at Ramkhamhaeng University where they revealed a collaboration to produce a cannabis-infused, traditional Thai dessert for sale in states where cannabis is legal.
“I believe the sweets will get a good response,” said Nalanchang. “I think Thai deserts that contains cannabis should sell well there.” (sic)
Chaisiri said she chose the dessert, thong ake (wealth and prosperity), because of its auspicious name, noting that her recipe retains the dessert’s authentic flavor even though it is infused with cannabis extract, reports The Nation.
Nalanchang says that the dessert, which will be sold under the Khanom Mee Mong brand, should begin shipping to legal states in August of 2019.
Over the weekend, Thailand’s first legal cannabis festival was held in the town of Buriram in the northeastern region of the country where thousands of attendees freely consumed cannabis in the presence of armed police under amnesty provided by the Ministry of Health.
