A California hemp pre-roll company company focused on disrupting the tobacco industry has released a documentary on cannabis criminalization, legalization legislation, and the legal industry’s confusing laws.
Today, San Diego-based Hempacco announced the release of its Barely Legal documentary on Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime.
Barely Legal, which features Hempacco Co-Founder Sandro Piancone, debuted at the 2021 Sonoma International Film Festival.
In the film, Piancone talks about the changing hemp and cannabis laws in the United States and how they impact the mainstream consumer and the tobacco industry.
“While policies are changing, the market still has a long way to go,” says Piancone. “At Hempacco, we’re focused on today and have our sights set on disrupting tobacco, bringing the power of hemp—perhaps one of those most versatile and sustainable crops on the planet to a world that we believe needs it now more than ever.”
Hempacco says the film illustrates how cultural and political forces, without regard for cannabis safety, have created a vastly ironic dichotomy.
The dichotomy, according to Hempacco, centers around the notion that a plant that millions of people use for medicine and many companies use for legitimate consumer applications is considered illegal and dangerous by the federal government.
Stephen Dorff (Blade, Immortals) narrates Barely Legal, and Emmy-award winner Casey is the film’s director.
Independent production company Cross Creek produced Barely Legal.
Cross Creek’s films have grossed over $1 billion and received nominations for 13 Academy Awards, 14 Golden Globes, and 23 BAFTAs.
The company won three BAFTA awards and two Golden Globes.
