San Diego-based Medical Marijuana, Inc. announced this week that they would be bringing former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman and Super Bowl champion Derek Kennard on as the spokesperson for their Kannaway subsidiary.

Initially formed in 2009, Medical Marijuana Inc. became the first publicly-traded (OTC Pink: MJNA) cannabis company in the United States. There are currently more than 200,000 shareholders in the company.

Kannaway offers hemp-based CBD wellness products, some of which they produce with athletes in mind.

“We look forward to working with Derek Kennard to continue our goal of spreading awareness and increasing public education about the health benefits of CBD,” said Kannaway CEO Blake Schroeder in a press release. “Kennard is just one of many who have seen amazing health results while using CBD oil and we aim to use his story to inspire others.”

According to the press release, Kennard has added Kannaway products to his daily routine and has experienced positive results in physical and mental health.

“CBD oil allows me to get along with my day and have an improved quality of life,” said Kennard. “If someone was skeptical about taking CBD, I’d tell them that it’s not marijuana and it definitely won’t get them high.”

“It’s become a great safe and natural alternative for me,” he said.

Kennard is one of an increasing number of current and former NFL players coming out in support of medicinal cannabis as a healthier alternative to opioids which are commonly prescribed for football-related injuries.
