All commercial cannabis activity in California requires licensing from one of the state’s three licensing authorities; the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC), CalCannabis Cultivation Licensing, or the Department of Public Health’s Manufactured Cannabis Safety Branch.
Failure to obtain licensing while continuing to operate a cannabis business can result in legal action from the state.
On Friday, BCC and the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Cannabis Enforcement Unit (DOI-CEU) announced enforcement action against two unlicensed Southern California cannabis retailers that had been selling illegal vape cartridges.
On Wednesday, September 11, the Los Angeles Police Department assisted DOI-CEU in the service of a search warrant at the Made in Cali dispensary located at 6212 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles.
Authorities seized nearly $2 million in cannabis products during the operation.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department assisted DOI-CEU in the service of a separate search warrant on Thursday, September 12 at the Garden of Faith shop located at 24400 Muirlands Blvd in Lake Forest.
The warrant resulted in the seizure of more than $840,000 in cannabis products from the shop.
The search warrants were served after BCC received complaints that the shops had been selling illegal vape cartridges.
The two raids come at a time when there is heightened concern over illegal vape cartridges that contain unapproved ingredients which have caused some to become ill and proved to be fatal for others.
