Report Shows Women Prefer Cannabis Strains High In CBD

A new report from big data and technology company RYAH Medtech, Inc. (RYAH) regarding medical cannabis use by women is showing that the average female patient prefers strains that are high in cannabidiol (CBD), delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and strains that are well-balanced to help treat mental health conditions.

Using survey feedback from 28,211 women in RYAH’s proprietary data pool and related insights, the new report finds that women are a growing segment of the medical cannabis market and comprise 45.1 percent of the patient population using RYAH’s data platform.

“The female patient demographic has not received enough industry attention or study up to this point,” says RYAH CEO Gregory Wagner. “Making up more than 45% of the patient pool, it’s our responsibility to better understand what this demographic looks like, which medical issues they are seeking treatment for and what treatments are providing successful outcomes. Women are turning to medical cannabis to treat their health concerns and it’s a valuable insight for care providers that we have learned strains high in CBD are helping them get relief.”

Wagner says that medical cannabis has the ability to change lives for the better and he hopes that insights from RYAH’s data pool and related analysis will help improve patient outcomes and inspire further research.

In addition to a preference for well-balanced strains that are high in CBD and THC, female patients demonstrated a nearly-equal preference for Indica and Sativa strains.

According to the data, women, like men, are using medical cannabis to treat anxiety, depression, stress, and pain.

RYAH compared the current data against other reports on females and cannabis and found that women are more likely than men to use cannabis for the specific treatment of nausea, anorexia, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, and fibromyalgia.

The reports also indicate that women tend to use medical cannabis later in life than men, usually after the age of 30.

According to the report, female patients prefer Cannatonic, Harlequin, Super Lemon Haze, and Purple Candy for treating anxiety, and Gorilla Glue (GG#4), Harlequin, Purple Candy, and AC/DC for treating fibromyalgia.
