Nebraska State Troopers arrested three people following in an incident that involved a truck stop assault, a theft, cannabis, and an adult woman leaping from an SUV on the highway.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, December, 24, troopers received a report of a theft and assault that had occurred at a Love’s Truck Stop located in Sidney.
According to a press release, the suspects fled the scene and headed eastbound on Interstate 80 in a Ford Explorer.
When a trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 75, he attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The Explorer slowed down to approximately 50 miles per hour when a female passenger leaped from the vehicle.
The trooper stopped and began giving verbal commands to the woman, but she fled on foot.
The woman, 20-year-old Kaniya Coleman from Oregon, was apprehended by another trooper and the Explorer then stopped in the center of the eastbound lanes of the Interstate.
The driver of the Explorer, 22-year-old Quavaria Griffin from Oregon, and another passenger, 27-year-old Ellis Dickerson from Pennsylvania, were taken into custody.
Troopers searched the vehicle and found more than a pound of cannabis as well as a drink that had been stolen from the truck stop.
The three individuals were arrested for possession of marijuana—more than one pound as well as other charges and taken to Cheyenne County jail.
Coleman was treated for minor injuries sustained from jumping out of the vehicle.
