Ayr Wellness Opens 45th Florida Dispensary

A cannabis company with operations in multiple states has opened its 45th dispensary in the Sunshine State.

On Monday, Miami, Florida-based Ayr Wellness announced the opening of a new medical cannabis dispensary in South Tampa.

Ayr opened its 43rd Florida dispensary in December and its 44th in January.

The company also opened a dispensary in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in January.

Ayr purchased Florida-based Liberty Health Sciences in February 2021, which included 31 dispensaries across Florida.

In the time since the purchase, Ayr has opened 14 additional locations.

“I’m proud to see our Florida team continue to thoughtfully expand our presence throughout the state, leading with the quality of the locations we are securing and the new stores that we’re building,” says Ayr CEO Jon Sandelman. “Combined with recent improvements in selection in our stores—Origyn Xtracts, Secret Orchard Sun Gems, and fruit-forward vapes, Big Pete’s Cookies, and enhanced flower offerings—we feel better than ever about customer experience throughout our 45-store Florida footprint.”

Sandelman, also the founder of Ayr, says there is excitement about the progress so far, but there is still more to do to realize the company’s full potential.

The new dispensary, located on the well-traveled Kennedy Boulevard, features more than 3,000 square feet of retail space and nine points of sale.

Ayr says the dispensary stocks its full line of concentrates, vapes, flower, pre-rolls, edibles, and gummies.

Ayr recently relocated its headquarters from New York City to Miami, Florida, a move that the company says underscores its commitment to the region.

Ayr says that, as of February 4, Florida has 676,000 patients enrolled in its medical cannabis program.

The Florida medical cannabis market, says Ayr, ranks third in the United States by total cannabis sales, having generated more than $1.2 billion in medical cannabis revenue in 2020.

Estimates predict the Florida medical cannabis market will generate an annual $2.6 billion by 2026.
