The volume of online searches for CBD has surpassed those of Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé, illustrating just how popular the trending cannabinoid has become.
The online search data is presented by CannabisMD’s Knowledge Navigator, a tool for tracking consumer trends. The data analyzes searches for over 12,000 links and social media platforms.
Kardashian hopped aboard the CBD trend in April by throwing a CBD-themed baby shower for Psalm West. The CBD baby shower was in celebration of her fourth child, and second surrogacy.
“This year, because I am freaking out so much, I just want a Zen-like CBD-themed baby shower,” Kardashian told E! News.
Following the baby shower, CBD retailers claimed that the hype was creating a shortage of CBD. Recent media attention, they claimed, was causing CBD to fly off the shelves.
Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, recently entered into the cannabis industry by partnering with Caliva, which operates two cannabis farms as well as a dispensary in San Jose, California. Mr. Carter is the Chief Brand Strategist of Caliva.
Search data for cannabidiol show that consumer interest has increased throughout recent years, especially after the United States Farm Bill in 2018 was passed, allowing for federal legalization of hemp.
According to Google Trends, the top searches for CBD include cbd oil, cbd hemp, hemp, cbd vape, and cbd near me.
