Candid Chronicle had the chance to ask Darren a few questions, let’s see what he had to say:

Where are you based?

Watsonville, CA

How did you get involved in the cannabis industry?

I grew up in a farming community and became passionate about my health and where my food comes from. This led me to understand plants have the ingredients to find self wellness and create personal well-being. Cannabis is naturally one of the most abundant botanical healers.

What organization are you part of and, how, or why did it start?

As CFO for Coastal Sun Cannabis, we began cultivating for WAMM (Wo/mans Alliance for Medical Marijuana) in 2015 after they lost their historical legacy property in Davenport. Since then we’ve continued to refine environmentally regenerative growing practices in line with those values.

What sets you apart in the cannabis industry?

We don’t want to get rich from cannabis, we want to ensure no one else does.

What life changes occurred when you entered the cannabis industry?

Seeing daily effects on others’ lives on their path to self wellness.

What about the cannabis industry and community do you love?

The passionate people who know they are at the beginning of changing the world. It’s understood we’re going to win and no government entity can stop us.

Do you have any frustrations, hopes, fears as cannabis changes?

None. Everything is unfolding with perfect harmony.

What were some of your challenges getting started in cannabis?

Educating regulars who generally don’t have the same drive and understanding that entrepreneurs do.

Where would you like to see yourself in the cannabis industry 3 years from now?

As an compulsive collaborator who’s willing to give anyone a chance and continue pushing people’s ability to find wellness.

What does the future of cannabis look like to you?

A major contributor to people learning about plants and how they heal the planet and humans.

How do you plan to make a positive difference in the cannabis industry?

Continue to refine cultivation methods which leverage the power of nature, in particular microbiology. These practices lower the cost of production and provide a more nutrient dense crop. The people therefore get more bang for their buck, and we can provide affordable access to everyone who wishes to heal themselves. The only losers in the game will be the folks who seek to get rich quick, but even they will benefit in the long run as they learn how cannabis is here to heal.

What makes you proud or gratified to be a part of the “legal” cannabis industry?

Everything in life that’s rewarding is challenging and requires discipline. I’m grateful that cannabis gives us an opportunity to develop wholesome plant wellness paths that traditional crops couldn’t.

Do you consume cannabis? If so, how do you prefer to consume?

Not currently but I used to. I practice a strict vegan lifestyle and use different forms of plant medicine. The good news is I understand there’s a time and place for everything and when I need it, the plant will provide for me.

What’s your favorite strain/cannabis product/etc?

GMO Garlic Cookies & Banjo because they deliver great joy to the consumers.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your business?

We’re rooted in the belief that Regenerative Agriculture and decentralized local crop production is the only long-term viable alternative to our current agricultural ecosystem. Our mission is to grow healthy plants by making the most efficient use of the sun, air, water, and microbiome. We provide organically grown nutrient dense products to people so they can focus on what plants do best – healing. We have designed a system of crop production that brings together cutting edge appropriate technology with an organic nutrient delivery system. Our Certified Organic farm is an example of how we can harness the power of biology to drive photosynthesis and cultivate crops in small containers.
