When firefighters arrived, they were able to quickly extinguish the flames and keep them contained to one room on the first floor.
The lack of windows on the brick building trapped the smoke inside and initially posed a challenge for firefighters when they were trying to locate the blaze. The building serves as a cultivation facility for the Holistic Remedies and Organic Wellness companies.

Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
UPDATE: According to a tweet posted to the DC Fire and EMS Twitter account, an investigator has determined that the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction in a transfer pump used to mix water and fertilizer in a plastic tank.
