Enails have become increasingly popular as the cannabis concentrate industry produces newly refined / quality products for patients and consumers to enjoy. For those who are still unfamiliar, an enail is a vaporization device that uses electricity to power a temperature controlled coil fitted to a dabbing setup in order to produce the desired dab. This eliminates the need for common torch setups that can carry an increased risk of fire damage and potential injury. Depending on the make and model, an enail can be equipped with either a turn style analog wheel or a digital temperature control system (called a PID controller) that allows the enail to maintain a stable / desired temperature for prolonged periods of time, producing a much more consistent (and flavorful) dabbing experience with no need to guess whether the temperatures are desirable.

Enails are available from a variety of companies and horror stories of cheaply made / malfunctioning units and poor customer service are indeed a common concern. Fortunately, there are many quality companies who pride themselves on bringing only the best products and practices to the industry. For those who are considering an investment in an enail setup, do not be afraid to do a little research, ask questions, and compare pricing to find a company / product that is just right.

With the quality of cannabis extractions increasing and a slew of newly refined products being brought to market, it is up to the dabbing industry to develop innovative accessories that can maintain pace with this evolving industry. In this article, we’ll learn about a more advanced and technical vaporization system- enter Hex-nail.

Hex nail has been in development since mid-2015, created from the ground up by patients, for patients, on the idea of providing an exceptionally innovative product to match both the dynamics and sophistication of today’s evolving extract market. What makes Hex-nail truly special is the elimination of a conventional PID temperature controller in favor of a fully integrated software system that actively monitors several key determinant factors in order to produce the perfect dab. Through countless hours of testing and reformatting, the developers were able to create an enail that provides a wide range of options for both novice and advanced dabbers to enjoy.

For starters, Hex-nail’s built-in touchscreen UI actively displays the set temperature (dotted line), coil temperature (red line), the connected dabbing accessories temperature (orange line), and the amount of power that is applied to the coil in real time (green), also displayed is the numerical percentage of power which can be seen just below the set temperature. It’s referred to as the ‘Duty Cycle’ in the settings. Several pre-set modes (such as Sesh, Glob, and Auto-Clean) are being incorporated which allows users to quickly switch between temperatures and accommodate different extract varieties/dabbing needs. Additional preset settings for ceramic, quartz, and other dabbing surfaces have also been included for further dabbing optimization. Safety features include a timer system, overshoot protective measures (due to its advanced software system), smart device connectivity (to monitor enail temperatures when not in the room), and user-replaceable fuses for its power inlets.

Hex-nails abilities don’t stop there, though, advanced product features include web interface via internet browser, user profile customization, and even dabbing reminders/alerts. For visual aesthetics and extra customizability, Hex-nail units come in a choice of several exotic wood finishes (enclosures are CNC milled with the process taking nearly 5 hours per unit. No veneer, no stain, just a natural grain solid wood. They also go through a finishing process involving over ten steps of sanding and five coats of wax/oil which is done completely by hand. This process takes over 20 hours for each enclosure before it is ready for internal assembly). Additionally, all Hex-nail units are designed/assembled in the US, come with a 2-year warranty against factory defects, one free heater replacement (if it fails within the first 12 months), and access to both software updates and support. (Except for the HN-01 models which carry a lifetime warranty against factory defects).

“We wanted to bring something new to both the medical & recreational cannabis community, something that feels like an evolution from the many great PID hardware based e-nails out there. We hope the Hex-nail will push the boundaries of what people consider the ‘standard in e-nail features and set a new trend for the rest of the industry. We really think there’s huge potential when you change your approach and come at things from a different angle. We may be dabbing on our rose-tinted rig today, but we really believe this new approach (if nothing else) will shake up the e-nail market like a snow globe. We can’t wait to get these into the hands of the people so they can experience what we’ve been working on (day in and day out) for over a year. We occasionally hit a hurdle or two, but this train isn’t slowing down anytime soon.”

We’d like to thank the people at Hex-nail for taking the time to speak with us about their product.
