The signing of the 2018 Farm Bill in December opened the door for industrial hemp production to return to the United States, and San Diego-based Medical Marijuana Inc. (MMI) has become one of the next companies to take advantage of the new opportunity.
In an announcement made on Thursday, MMI revealed that it had begun manufacturing operations under an industrial hemp license.
“Operating under this license is a big step for our company and a great sign for the future of our domestic operations,” said MMI CEO Dr. Stuart Titus in a statement. “The 2018 Farm Bill has allowed us to grow our processing and manufacturing capabilities as well as drive the global supply chain of high-quality hemp.”
MMI’s processor license will allow them to store, handle, and convert industrial hemp into marketable goods under the company’s soil to sale plan which includes processing raw hemp and manufacturing products at a new larger production facility.
On July 23, MMI announced its expansion into a bigger warehouse and production facility to meet consumer demand for the company’s cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil products.
The new 16,000 square-foot facility is cGMP compliant and registered with the state of Utah.
Dr. Titus says that the new facility will enable MMI to meet the needs of the growing cannabis market and strengthen the company’s customer base, creating valuable relationships with retailers and consumers worldwide.
