On 4/20 Eve, more politicians are making moves to end cannabis prohibition.

Chuck Schumer, Democratic Senate Minority Leader of New York, says he is introducing a bill that will decriminalize cannabis on the federal level and remove cannabis from the DEA’s list of controlled substances. According to an interview Schumer did with VICE, the bill will also provide funding for minority and women-owned cannabis businesses, and push for more cannabis research- primarily on driving impairment.

“If smoking marijuana doesn’t hurt anybody else, why shouldn’t we allow people to do it and not make it criminal?” Schumer told VICE. The VICE interview with Schumer will air tonight, 7:30 PM, on HBO.

Likewise, Bernie Sanders is co-sponsoring the Marijuana Justice Act, which would remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act and withhold funds from states who continue to disproportionately arrest and incarcerate minorities for cannabis crimes.
