Canadian e-commerce company Shopify has announced new features on its platform that will enable merchants in the United States to sell hemp and hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products online or at brick-and-mortar retail locations.
Shopify’s platform is already used for legal sales of adult-use cannabis in Canada.
As of Tuesday, September 17, hemp and hemp-derived CBD retailers in the U.S. can take advantage of the new features which include online store design, technical support, secure shipping, shipping profiles, electronic payment, and integrated apps.
“This is an exciting time for the CBD skincare industry,” said Director of eCommerce for Josie Maran Cosmetics, Roger Wason. “Consumers are eager to connect with us and try our Skin Dope products. Until recently, we didn’t have a simple solution to manage and sell our CBD Oil and Hemp Seed oil assortment online. Shopify has helped us focus more on our relationships with our consumers and growing our business.”
Shopify offers tools in their marketing section to help CBD retailers increase brand awareness and bring customers to their store.
Merchants on Shopify can also take advantage of more than 2,500 available apps to customize their business, store features, and customer experience as well as handle other related tasks such as accounting and inventory management.
CEO Harley Finkelstein says that Shopify has the expertise in emerging industries and resources to help merchants succeed in the quickly-growing hemp-derived CBD market in the United States.
Finkelstein says that Shopify’s extensive partner network can enable companies to meet product demand and give consumers more choices.
