Triminator Unveils Semi-Dry Cannabis Trimming Machine

A California cannabis and hemp harvesting machinery company has unveiled a new machine designed to provide processors with added speed and efficiency.

Grass Valley-based Triminator today announced its latest piece of hardware, the Triminator Hybrid.

The company calls the Triminator Hybrid a new paradigm for trimming cannabis that can process material twice as fast as similarly-priced machines.

According to the company, the Triminator Hybrid can trim semi-dry crops as well as plants that are fully dry or freshly harvested.

Triminator says semi-dry trimming provides the same quality results as dry trimming but provides the convenient option of trimming plants with higher moisture content.

With semi-dry trimming, cultivators can dry their plants to a 15-20 percent moisture content before separating flowers from the stalks with a mechanical bucker.

Then, they can trim up to 20 pounds of semi-dry material per hour with the Triminator Hybrid before drying the material until it reaches a 10-11 percent moisture content.

“Semi-dry trimming preserves terpenes and color like dry trimming,” says Triminator founder Dana Mosman. “The advantage is the flowers aren’t brittle and delicate like when they’re fully dry. With semi-dry trimming, you can use a mechanical bucker to remove the flowers like you would when wet trimming, and there’s less trichome detachment. So the overall speed of the process is increased, while retaining the quality we’ve come to love with dry trimming.”

Triminator says the new machine allows cultivators to trim plant material at all moisture levels by allowing more control of the fully adjustable tumbler, vacuum, and helical blade speed.

The machine’s fixed knife contours to its helical cutting blade, which Triminator says creates a scissor-like effect and the most precise trim in the industry.

According to the company, the new machine is also cost-effective as well as efficient.

Mosman says the Triminator Hybrid uses trickle-down technologies from other trimming machines that cost three times as much.

“For instance, the vacuum system collects trimmings without forcing material through an impeller fan,” says Mosman. “This no-contact system improves trim quality, which results in better extracts. The system is a standard feature on the new machine.”

Triminator will be accepting pre-orders for the Triminator Hybrid at their Demo in the Desert event, which coincides with MJBizCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, October 21.
