West Virginia’s first medical cannabis dispensary will open next weekend.
Florida-based, multi-state cannabis operator Trulieve Cannabis Corp. today announced the grand opening of West Virginia’s first dispensary at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, November 12.
Trulieve announced its plan to enter West Virginia’s medical cannabis market in February, having obtained four dispensary permits from the Office of Medical Cannabis.
West Virginia’s First Dispensaries
The new dispensary, located at 1397 Earl Core Road in Morgantown, will stock Trulieve’s diverse cannabis product lines, including TruFlower, TruClear concentrates, Truspectrum Whole Plant Extract, and Botanical TruPOD cartridges.
A selection of Momenta topical, capsule, and tincture products will also be available to registered, age-verified patients with valid medical cannabis cards.
Only days after opening West Virginia’s first dispensary, Trulieve will open a second dispensary at 137 Staunton Drive in Weston on Monday, November 15.
Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers says the company is thrilled to be the first to market in West Virginia and continue building the foundation for the state’s medical cannabis market.
“Our team is especially eager to leverage our first-mover advantage to bolster local economies by creating sustainable jobs and investing in marginalized communities,” says Rivers. We look forward to serving West Virginia patients, who have been patiently waiting for this day to arrive, with an unparalleled retail experience and the high-quality medical cannabis products they can rely on for safe and effective relief.”
The dispensary grand opening in Morgantown will feature music, giveaways, and complimentary food from Pizza Al’s.
Additionally, Trulieve will offer patients a 25 percent in-store discount and assist in completing patient card applications on opening day.
Trulieve Operations in West Virginia
In July, Trulieve began cultivation in its 100,000 square-foot facility in Huntington.
The company says it has scaled capacity over the past three months in anticipation of patient demands and plans to open additional brick-and-mortar locations in West Virginia during the coming year.
According to Trulieve, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ Office of Medical Cannabis had received more than 4,000 patient applications for the state’s medical cannabis program as of November 4.
Trulieve says that, ahead of the start of medical cannabis sales in West Virginia, it has established partnerships with community organizations, which it plans to expand upon in the future.
Recently, Trulieve participated in the Fairness West Virginia Gala, the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative Virtual Presentation, the West Virginia Virtual Physicians Connect, the West Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association Conference, and the West Virginia University Tailgate.
Trulieve will also participate in the upcoming West Virginia Family Medicine Foundation Conference on November 12-14.
