Indiana police have arrested two men after discovering millions of dollars worth of cannabis and THC vape cartridges in a vehicle that the pair were driving back to the state from Burbank, California.
At approximately 11:33 a.m. on Wednesday, Indiana State Police stopped an eastbound box truck for a traffic violation after they observed it following too closely on the I-70 in Hendricks County, reports WXIN.
While a state trooper was speaking with the driver and passenger of the vehicle, he reportedly “detected the aroma of, and observed criminal indicators.”
A search of the truck revealed several cardboard boxes in the cargo area which contained 50,000 THC vape cartridges and plastic bags filled with 250 pounds of cannabis flowers.
Police arrested Indianapolis residents Brandon Pierson and Danny Luttrell II, both 27, and transported them to Hendricks County Jail. The pair were charged with dealing marijuana, which is considered a Level 5 felony in the state of Indiana and comes with a one-to-six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
Police estimated the street value of the cannabis to be around $2.5 million and about $1 million for the vape cartridges.
