Josephine County Sheriffs Find Man Shot, Buried At Grow Site

Oregon law enforcement recently discovered a body at an illegal cannabis grow site.

According to a press release from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), on October 8, 2021, deputies and detectives responded to a report of a deceased male in the O’Brien area.

JCSO says the man had been shot and buried at a property off Samarkand Drive.

The reporting party did not know the area well but led law enforcement officers to the burial site.

When law enforcement arrived at the property, they identified it as an illegal cannabis grow site where they had previously served a search warrant.

According to JCSO, the reporting party was familiar with some details of the incident and guided law enforcement to a shallow grave in a wooded area approximately one-quarter mile from the grow site.

Law enforcement dug up the grave and discovered a deceased individual buried there.

“The deceased was a Hispanic male, who was known to work on the grow site,” states the press release. “Next of kin have been notified, however, the name of the deceased will not be released in order to protect the investigation.”

JCSO activated the Josephine County Major Crimes Team, which consists of JCSO, Grants Pass Police, Oregon State Police, and the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office to handle the incident.

JSCO says the investigation is ongoing and requests anyone with pertinent information in the case to contact them at 541-474-5123.
