Kikoko Cannabis Teas Put the “Herb” in Herbal Tea

I want to admit my bias upfront: I fell in love with Kikoko before I ever tried their products. Their ads are age-positive, body-positive, classy, and cheeky, all at the same time. (Is it possible to have a girl crush on a company?) The company’s two women owners donate one percent of revenues from their line of cannabis tea to medical marijuana research around seizures, and one percent of revenues from their line of cannabis-infused honey goes to honey bee conservation.

Kikoko’s variety pack of cannabis tea includes Tranquili-Tea for “RELAX + SLEEP”, Positivi-Tea for “MOOD + JOY”, Sympa-Tea for “PAIN + ANXIETY”, and Sensuali-Tea for “PASSION + PLAY”.

Kikoko claims that each cannabis-infused organic, herbal tea combines precisely dosed cannabinoids with terpenes and other herbs to cultivate a specific experience. I decided to put their claims to the test with their Taste of Tea variety pack. Boiling water dissolves the cannabis ingredients in 90 seconds, due to a proprietary, water-soluble technology that also ensures the infusion doesn’t ruin the taste, unlike so many foul-tasting, cannabis-infused drinks and edibles. That part of their claims is true!

Do Kikoko’s teas have the exact effect that was promised? I compared them to less-curated cannabis products (i.e., whatever I would normally smoke) and the results were mixed.

MEH: Positivi-Tea & Sensuali-Tea

Both Positivi-Tea and Sensuali-Tea gave me a mild high, but I didn’t have a strongly positive or sensual experience. At $4-6 per sachet, these won’t replace my go-to products. I’ve had much more enjoyable edibles at a lower price per dose, not to mention good old fashioned flower, a vaporizer, or a few dabs.

Each of Kikoko’s cannabis-infused herbal tea sachets are truly beautiful, with colorful accents highlighting the complementary ingredients that reinforce the intended effects.

Positivi-Tea is delicious! This mint green tea also includes licorice root, lemon myrtle, lemongrass, and safflower petals, plus 10mg of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 5mg of cannabidiol (CBD). This would likely be a very comfortable high for someone who is looking for mild psychoactive effects and doesn’t want to smoke.

After more than 15 years of daily cannabis use, I didn’t need a scientific study to know that sex and weed go together like milk and cookies. I think that’s why Sensuali-Tea – with hibiscus, cardamom, rose, and 7mg of THC – was nothing special. I suspect it’s a game changer for anyone who isn’t already living the high life, especially someone experiencing low sex drive, problems achieving orgasm, or sexual discomfort.

YES: Sympa-Tea & Tranquili-Tea

The greatest benefit of legalization is that marijuana can be researched more openly. As the commercial cannabis industry comes to understand the roles of myriad cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, the companies that supply us with high-quality products are smart enough to use this to their advantage – and ours! Kikoko has done exactly that, and these two cannabis teas deliver on the cultivated experience they claim.

Sympa-Tea Experience

Quadruple lab-tested to be free of toxins, Sympa-Tea is a wellness powerhouse, combining ginger, turmeric, and orange peel with black pepper, star anise, cinnamon, and licorice root.

Despite my Tuesday hangover, I needed to keep a clear head. It was a safe bet that the 3mg of THC in Sympa-Tea wouldn’t get me stoned, and I knew it would magnify the effectiveness of the 20mg of CBD. In about an hour, I was feeling good as new! The ginger and orange peel settled my stomach so I could finally eat, and the turmeric reduced likely inflammation from my body trying to protect itself (from me, ugh). My discomfort went away almost completely and I had a very productive afternoon.

It wasn’t the first time I have used cannabis to mitigate a hangover, but Sympa-Tea was far more effective. My usual hangover cure is smoking a bowl. While a little herb takes the edge off, the best I can say is that it makes me not-quite-miserable… if I don’t get off the couch or try to do anything.

I see a ten-pack can in my future! I realize a hangover doesn’t necessarily translate to relief from other kinds of pain, but I will certainly give it a try when the opportunity presents itself. After all, the analgesic properties of CBD combined with THC are well documented.

Tranquili-Tea Experience

Sleep after drinking Kikoko’s Tranquili-Tea with CBN.

Typical night of sleep with flower, dabs or edibles.

I love sleeping, thanks to cannabis. I honestly wonder why anyone sleeps without it! But data doesn’t lie. I can objectively say I had an exceptional night of sleep, thanks to Tranquili-Tea. See for yourself! The red at the top of each sleep graph represents “awake” time throughout the night. I’m typically “awake” 11% of the night – a 45% increase, compared to 7.5% of the night with Tranquili-Tea. Even before I checked my Fitbit for confirmation, I knew it had been a good night. When my alarm went off, I popped out of bed without a snooze, which never happens.

Tranquili-Tea is an organic chamomile tea with lemon myrtle, licorice, peppermint, valerian root, rosemary, and lemongrass, perfect for a relaxing evening of self-care.

A low dose of 3mg THC is present for the “entourage effect” – it enhances the efficacy of the CBN, the real rock star of this tea. Cannabinol, or CBN, is a cannabinoid best known as a sedative, pain reliever and appetite stimulant – but don’t worry about an attack of the munchies. With Tranquili-tea, you’ll be fast asleep.
